Abstract

Background : Asphyxia is an emergency event characterized by spontaneous breathing failure immediately after birth, posing a high risk of death. In 2023 Mas Amsyar Kasongan Hospital reported 86 cases of neonatal asphyxia, with 12 resulting in infant deaths. Among the deceased infants, 12 were born weighing less than 2500 grams, and 3 were born to mothers with a history of preeclampsia. Research Objectives : To analyzethe relationship between birth weight and the history of preeclampsia in the mother with the occurrence of neonatal asphyxia. Research methods : Quantitative analytics with a case -control design. The total sample size was 62 people, with 31 individuals in the case group and 31 individuals in the control group. The data used were secondary data. Research result : The incidence of neonatal asphyxia was 31 babies (50.0%), while there were no cases of neonatal asphyxia in 31 babies (50.0%). The majority of mothers were not at risk, with 33 people (53.2%). The majority of parity was multigravida, with 31 people (50.0%). The gender of the majority of babies was male, with 32 babies (51.6%). The majority of birth weights were not low birth weight (LBW), with 39 babies (62.9%). The majority of mothers with preeclampsia had no history of preeclampsia, with 43 mothers (69.4%). The Chi-square statistical test data processing evealed a relationship between the baby's birth weight and the incidence of neonatal asphyxia (P-value = 0.000; OR = 10.688). There was also a relationship between the history of preeclampsia in the mother and the incidence of neonatal asphyxia (P-value = 0.001; OR = 9.956). Conclusion : There is a relationship between the baby's birth weight and the mother's history of preeclampsia with the occurrence of neonatal asphyxia.
