Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder due to the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the body does not use insulin which is produced effectively, therefore serious DM management is needed. DM management can begin with a non-pharmacological approach in the form of providing health education to maximize DM management, especially in increasing adherence to taking oral hypoglycemic drugs. The purpose of this study is to find out the differences in adherence to taking medication before and after being given health education. This research is a quantitative type with a quasi-experimental pre and post test without control method, which is a study that tested an intervention in a group of subjects with or without a comparison group that revealed differences in adherence to oral hypoglycemic drugs (OHO) of diabetes mellitus clients before and after being given health education. This study used purposive sampling technique by selecting a sample of the total DM client population who were treated at the Palangka Raya Pahandut Health Center, according to the inclusion criteria set by the researcher, with 34 respondents using the Wilcoxon test. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between adherence to oral hypoglycemic medication for diabetes mellitus clients before and after health education at Pahandut Palangka Raya Health Center with a p-value of 0,000. Success in DM management is influenced by medication adherence, health education can support health programs so as to produce changes and increase knowledge in controlling blood sugar levels and improve quality of life in DM clients.
