Abstract

Background: Anemia is a disease characterized by a lack of red blood cells in the blood. Lack of hemoglobin in the blood can cause more serious complications for the mother in pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. WHO, 2021, the incidence of anemia in postpartum mothers is 56%. India, deaths due to anemia reach 19%, of cases of anemia in postpartum mothers 65% - 75%. Data from the Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI) in 2020 stated that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia was 305 per 100,000 live births. Based on the Palangka Raya Provincial Health Service Profile in 2012, the number of maternal deaths was 63 cases (142.8%) out of 44,133 live births, in 2013 the number of maternal deaths cases increased, namely 75 cases (177.6%) out of 42,240 live births. and in 2014 maternal deaths again increased, namely by 101 cases (184.9%) out of 54,605 live births. Objective: To determine the relationship between postpartum mothers' Hb levels and breast milk adequacy in the Pahandut Community Health Center working area. Method: This research is analytical observational using a cross sectional approach. Results: Based on the table above, it can be seen that the results of the analysis of the relationship between hemoglobin levels and breast milk adequacy showed that out of 53 respondents HB levels were normal (23.8%) 28 respondents, (14.4%) 17 respondents had mild HB, and those with HB Heavy (6.8%) 8 respondents. Breast milk adequacy of 53 respondents: 45 respondents (84.9%) have sufficient breast milk, 8 respondents (15.1%) have insufficient breast milk. From the test results, it was found that there was a significant relationship showing a p value of 0.015 between the relationship between Hb levels and breast milk adequacy. Conclusion: From the research results, HB levels can influence the level of breast milk adequacy, where mothers experiencing anemia are at risk of experiencing insufficient (insufficient) breast milk. The statistical test results obtained a p value of 0.015 (P<0.05). So it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the proportion of adequate breast milk between respondents who are anemic and respondents who are not anemic. Suggestion: It is important for mothers to maintain HB within normal limits so that breast milk production runs smoothly and obtains quality breast milk and does not interfere with the process of absorbing the nutrients consumed so that it can affect breast milk production.
