Abstract

Background:Anemia is a health condition where hemoglobin levels in the blood are lower than normal based on age group, gender and pregnancy according to (WHO, 2015). hemoglobin levels are normal in women which is 12 gr / dl. Increased need for iron to form red blood cells in adolescent girls is higher than male teenagers, this is because young women routinely menstruate every month. Menstrual pattern is a series of menstrual processes consisting of menstrual cycles, menstrual length and amount of menstrual bleeding. Objective: To determine the relationship of menstrual patterns with the incidence of anemia in young women at SMAN 1 Palangka Raya City. Method:This type of research is analytic survey research design with cross sectional approach. The samples in this study were all students of SMAN 1 Palangka Raya City. who met the criteria of 50 respondents from 180 populations. Sampling with non-random sampling technique using a questionnaire. Tests for hemoglobin levels by laboratory check. Results:The results showed that most of the female teenagers who experienced abnormal menstrual patterns suffered from anemia while 21 female students (77.8%), and female teenagers who experienced normal menstrual patterns, suffered mild anemia from 15 female students (65.2%). Chi Square test results to show Schoolgirls with abnormal menstrual patterns have a risk (OR)6,563 times have anemia. (p-value = 0.005). Conclusion: There is a relationship between menstrual patterns with the incidence of anemia in young women at SMAN 1 Palangka Raya City.
